India Semiconductor Association

Message from Chairman ISA

B.V.Naidu B. V. Naidu

I have been active in promoting the IT Industry on behalf of the Government of India for more than one and a half decade. Now, it is a privilege and an opportunity for me to lead industry promotional activities as Chairman of ISA.

For the past five years, ISA has played a seminal role in promoting the semicon industry in India and creating an identity for this industry sector. It has leveraged the support of the stakeholders, the government, industry and academia, and brought them on a single platform. In a short span of time, the industry association that started with a small group of members has grown significantly. This is a commendable achievement.

Under the leadership of ISA president Poornima Shenoy, the organization has built a strong, process-driven foundation for sustainable success.

This year ISA has an excellent Executive Committee (EC), with members representing all the stakeholders. The EC has exhibited a high level of proactive participation, and contributed significantly to the overall objectives of ISA. I am sure the EC can take ISA to the next level in terms of visibility and effectiveness in promoting the semicon, systems and Solar Photo Voltaic (SPV) industry segments.

I am happy to convey that this year ISA will focus on the growing domestic market and product innovation, customized to market needs in India. To achieve this, ISA has increased its scope for exclusive participation of semiconductor design companies, systems design and product manufacturing companies as well as SPV companies.

Accordingly, Core Initiative Groups (CIGs) and Special Interest Groups (SIGs) have been created to take care of all the verticals and segments of the industry.

CIGs: Automotive, solar PV, legal, ISA Industry Research, entrepreneurship, healthcare, Japan CIG, UK CIG, Vision Summit 2010 and Technovation.

SIGs: Manufacturing, talent, India Semiconductor Vision Document 2020.

Each of the CIGs and SIGs is driven by an EC member and has drawn up a 12-month plan.

ISA is creating a Vision Document, India Semiconductor Vision Document 2020, to benefit all the stakeholders, the government, industry and academia, and create a roadmap for the country.

ISA has expanded its reach to many other cities and you will see representation from all regions of the country into the EC. ISA also increased its interaction with the government and dialogue with both at the central and state government level. Our interactions are focused on budget recommendations, policy recommendations and implementation of the Semiconductor Policy of the Government of India. We are creating a document with recommendations for the growth of the SPV industry in the country.

ISA has adopted a multi-pronged approach to promote the semiconductor industry and increase the ISA member base. Our market reports, high caliber events like Vision Summit, SolarCon 2009 and ISA ExCITE, and our emerging focus on the systems sector will further the interests of the industry. We are working towards talent availability and product innovation to cater to the Indian market. Our members benefit from regular industry interactions. The ISV India Vision Document 2020 that covers healthcare, energy, automotive and entrepreneurship will definitely leave a mark on the sector.

I am sure the initiatives taken by ISA will create a long-term impact on the country and increase the contribution of this sector at least to 15 percent of the overall country's GDP by 2020.

Jai Hind!
