The company's growth continues at a steady pace, both in photovoltaics as well as
entertainment in India. After the company's release of its first quarter financial results, Ratul
Puri, executive director of Moser Baer, commented: “The global economic environment in
which we operated was challenging and we had to deal with a number of one time costs during
the quarter. Pricing for optical media after falling for a number of quarters has finally
bottomed out. We stand to benefit from our lead technology positioning in Blu-ray, which is
emerging as a dominant optical format. Our photovoltaic and entertainment businesses are
poised to deliver significant growth during the current year and our goal is to emerge as a
leading global player in both industries.” |

A weakening global economy will soon cause consumers worldwide to slow spending on
electronics products, a Gartner analyst warned on Monday. "In coming months we expect to see
signs of a widespread slowdown in the electronics sector, which would directly impact
semiconductor sales," said Richard Gordon, analyst at Gartner, in the market researcher's
Semiconductor Monday DQ Report. The chip industry likely won't start to recover until the
second half of next year. |

With some part of each vehicle of the world having some touch of India, the 'India as a brand in
engineering' is making headway, thanks to global original equipment manufactures (OEMs), who
in a catch 22 situation are looking at low cost destinations like India as outsourcing hubs. The
Indian automotive engineering services outsourcing industry is expected to grow at a
compounded annual growth rate of 32% (CAGR) by 2012-13. "The industry has generated
revenues to the tune of $500-600 million last year and there is $2.2 billion potential
outsourcing opportunity in the next two years," said VG Ramakrishnan, director, automotive &
transportation practice, Frost & Sullivan talking at the "Opportunities in the Automotive
Engineering Services Market" seminar here. |

| Solar power boosts Applied but casts industry shadow |
| Source: David Manners, ElectronicsWeekly.com, August 13 2008 |
| http://www.electronicsweekly.com |
|
A warning omen for the semiconductor industry is that the world's largest supplier of
semiconductor production equipment, Applied Materials, saw orders for its solar generating
equipment grow by six times in calendar Q2, while orders for its semiconductor production
equipment shrank by 57 per cent. The semiconductor industry has an uneasy relationship with
the production equipment industry, with the semiconductor companies pressing for investment
in new generations of equipment, and the equipment companies charging ever-increasing sums
for tools to squeeze a profit from that investment. |
